Mark Faulkner
Co-Founder
Mark has an established track record in bringing transparency to rapidly-developing areas of financial services. In 1994, he spotted an opportunity to provide customers in the securities financing industry with independent specialist advice and services. The company he founded, Data Explorers, is now the leading provider of securities lending data across all global market sectors, and was acquired by IHS Markit in 2012. Mark graduated from the London School of Economics and held management roles at LM Moneybrokers, Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers.
Donal Smith
Executive Chairman

Prior to co-founding Credit Benchmark, Donal was CEO of Data Explorers (acquired by IHS Markit in April 2012). Previously he held roles at Thomson Reuters including CEO of Thomson Financial’s businesses in Europe and Asia. He has also served as CEO of FT.com and Director of Electronic Publishing for the Financial Times Group. He is currently Chairman of PIRUM Ltd and BI-SAM Technologies SA. Donal holds a BA in the History of Art and English Literature from University College Dublin.

Yaprak de Beaufort
Head of Strategy

Yaprak is responsible for strategy and business development.  Prior to joining Credit Benchmark, Yaprak lead the Business Development and Account Management effort for Third Bridge in EMEA, managing commercial and day-to-day relationships for a portfolio of 50 institutional investors. Before Third Bridge, Yaprak spent a number of years in investment banking, most recently as Vice President at Nomura’s European M&A team focusing on deal execution. Previously she worked at Lehman Brothers European M&A and Equity Capital Markets teams as an associate. Before joining Lehman Brothers, Yaprak worked as a consultant for the Office of Deputy Prime Minister. She holds an MBA degree from INSEAD, MSc in Computer Science from University of Manchester and degree in Economics from Manchester Business School. 

David Carruthers
Head of Research

David is responsible for developing and enhancing the Credit Benchmark dataset. He previously held roles at Markit Securities Finance, including most recently as Managing Director, and as Head of Quant Research at Data Explorers. Prior to this he held senior roles at risk consultants Barrie & Hibbert (now part of Moodys) where he was responsible for fixed income and equity portfolio risk analysis, and in portfolio management with Pimco and Murray Johnstone. David holds a PhD in Econometrics from Glasgow University and is a member of the CFA Institute.

Harry Chopra
Chief Commercial Officer

Based in New York, Harry leads Credit Benchmark's sales and customer service activities globally. Previously, Harry was head of global sales and client services for S&P Capital IQ, where he marketed S&P’s credit ratings and research and commercialized credit related analytics for the investor community.  He has also held senior roles in Citigroup Asset Management. Harry has a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Delhi and an MBA in Marketing from The University of Michigan.

Donal Fleming
Chief Technology Officer

Prior to joining Credit Benchmark, Donal was the CTO for Bluecrest Capital, a global multi-asset Hedge Fund. Prior to that, Donal was a Managing Director at JPMorgan, where he spent over fourteen years. At JPMorgan, Donal worked in several different Investment Banking business areas including Fixed Income, Credit & Emerging Markets. In addition, he was CTO for a JPMorgan Hedge Fund buildout and ran technology for one of the Securities Services groups. Donal also spent two years in the early 2000’s working for a technology start-up. He holds a first class degree in Electronic Engineering from University College Cork.

Joshua Jian
Director, Corporate Development

Josh is responsible for corporate development and strategic initiatives, and has experience in both banking and tech sectors: Josh led strategy and business development for startups in areas such as data analytics and fintech. Prior to that, Josh spent 5 years at J.P. Morgan managing credit risk and providing corporate finance for activities such as M&A, across EMEA and APAC regions.

Josh holds a First Class degree from Durham, MPhil in Finance from Cambridge and an MBA from INSEAD as a Louis Franck Scholar.

Mahim Mehra
Global Head, Contributor Relationships

Mahim has 25 years experience in the credit risk function of leading global banks, and now leads the Business Development effort for Credit Benchmark. Prior experience includes serving as Morgan Stanley’s Co–Head of Credit Risk Management for Europe, Middle East and Africa, as well as holding senior positions with Citibank. Mahim has consulted on projects for the United Nations, International Atomic Energy Agency, Citibank and BCG. He graduated with an MSc (Economics) from the London School of Economics as an Inlaks Scholar.

Thomas Aubrey
Advisor, Credit Risk
Thomas advises Credit Benchmark on credit risk analytics, data science and content management. Thomas ran credit and economic analytics businesses, serving as the Managing Director of Fitch Solutions. He was a Managing Director at Datastream and before that he worked as a management consultant turning around failing businesses in Asia, North America and Europe. Thomas is currently the CEO of Credit Capital Advisory. Thomas has written widely on financial and economic issues including Profiting from Monetary Policy published by Palgrave in 2012, and co-authored Prediction Markets: The end of the regulatory state? in 2007 with Professor Frank Vibert. Other areas of research have included nonfinancial risks undertaken jointly with the World Economic Forum as well as liquidity, operational and systemic risk. He holds a first class degree from the London School of Economics and an MPhil from the University of Cambridge.

Tim Bunting
Board Member

Tim joined Balderton as a General Partner in 2007. He was previously a partner of Goldman Sachs where he spent 18 years. At Goldman, Tim held various roles including Global Head of Equity Capital Markets (2002 to 2005) and Vice-Chairman of Goldman Sachs International (2005 to 2006). Tim started to work with Balderton and its portfolio of companies in 2005. In 2006 Tim spent a period as non-executive chairman of Betfair. Tim is also a Governor of Wellington College and the Wellington Academy; a Trustee of the Rainbow Trust Children's Charity and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. Education: Tim is a graduate of the University of Cambridge.

Jan Hammer
Board Member

Jan joined Index in 2010. His investments include Adyen, BitPay, Credit Benchmark, Just Eat, Novus, Robinhood, Socialbakers, Zendesk and Zuora. Jan is particularly interested in financial services disruption and information services across all stages. Jan works with The Prince's Trust as a business mentor to young startup entrepreneurs.

Prior to joining Index, Jan worked at General Atlantic in London, where he was involved with investments with Kaspersky Lab, Northgate Information Solutions and Torex Retail. Before joining General Atlantic, Jan worked at Morgan Stanley in M&A, TMT, and Capital Markets divisions in London and New York. Jan holds an MBA with Distinction from INSEAD, and is a graduate of Oxford University.

Lee Olesky
Board Member

Lee is the CEO and co-founder of Tradeweb. He has an extensive background in managing both investment banking and financial technology companies. Prior to joining the company, Olesky was the President and founder of BrokerTec, a successful electronic brokerage platform, which was sold to Icap in 2003. Previously, Olesky worked at Credit Suisse First Boston in a variety of management positions in the Fixed Income business.

Olesky serves on a variety of both private and public company Boards. He has a Juris Doctorate from George Washington University, the National Law Center in Washington D.C; a BA in History from Tulane University; and attended University College in London.

Mahim Mehra

Michael Crumpler
Director – Contributor Relationships, Americas
Michael joined Credit Benchmark as Director, Contributor Relationships – Americas from Goldman Sachs. At Goldman, he was a vice president in the Credit Risk Management & Advisory group covering a diverse portfolio of credits across the natural resources and public finance sectors. Prior to Goldman, Michael spent nearly 10 years in credit risk and banking roles at Barclays, Dexia and Moody’s Investors Service focused primarily on energy and U.S. public finance. Michael holds a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and a Bachelor of English Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Werner de Wit
Director – Contributor Relationships, EMEA
Werner joined Credit Benchmark from J.P. Morgan as Director of Contributor Relationships in EMEA. Werner brings with him over a decade of experience in leading global financial institutions, and has held a number of positions across Product Development, Risk Management and Sales. In particular, Werner spent a large part of his career specializing in Counterparty Credit Risk, covering Asset Managers, Pension Funds and Hedge Funds across the Commercial and Investment Bank at J.P. Morgan. He holds a First Class (Cum Laude) degree from Stellenbosch University, a Post Graduate Degree in Financial Analysis and Portfolio Management from the University of Cape Town, and has been a CFA Charter Holder since August 2010.
Adam Worricker
Contributor Onboarding Manager
Adam is responsible for onboarding contributors to the Credit Benchmark data service. Prior to joining Credit Benchmark, Adam spent a number of years as Head of Data Solutions at SIX Group where he worked with Fund Managers and Fund Administrators to grow a range of data products into globally recognised solutions. Adam is a qualified Prince 2 practitioner with a strong background in project management and leading contributor and client projects.

Overview

Data governance is a key issue for Credit Benchmark and Contributing Financial Institutions. The governance process needs to cover the principles used in ingest, storage, analysis and publication of contributed data. As part of this process, Credit Benchmark have established two groups which meet quarterly.

Methodology Committee

The Methodology Committee is a discussion forum for Credit Benchmark and representatives from each Contributing Financial Institution with the stated aim of facilitating continuous improvement in service, data quality and outputs. Topics include:

  1. Comparability and consistency of contributor data.
  2. Aggregation methodology and quorate publication rules.
  3. Calibration standards for summary credit categories.
  4. Regulatory reporting issues.
  5. Development priorities for the Credit Benchmark service.

Technical Advisory Group

The Technical Advisory Group is chaired by Tom Aubrey and consists of senior credit risk professionals and academics from Europe and North America. The current members are all independent consultants:

  • Damiano Brigo – Currently Professor of Quantitative Finance and Stochastic Analysis, Imperial College London
  • Tamar Joulia – Former Head of Credit Portfolio Group, ING
  • Randy Miller – Former Head of Credit Portfolio Analytics, Bank of America  
  • John Hibbert – Financial Risk Manager, Co-Founder of Barrie & Hibbert (acquired by Moody’s)

The Technical Advisory Group provides advice on how Credit Benchmark data can be optimized for contributing financial institutions in their day-to-day credit risk management processes. It also provides peer reviews of published research and insight into how the data can be used in academic research into credit markets.
