Banking Relationship Manager, Americas

Who we are

Credit Benchmark is the leading provider of independent consensus credit risk intelligence. We aggregate and anonymize internal credit risk assessments from many of the world’s leading financial institutions to produce unique, forward-looking measures of credit risk across corporate, financial, sovereign and fund entities globally.

Our contributor network sits at the heart of Credit Benchmark. Participating financial institutions contribute anonymized credit risk estimates, which we aggregate to create independent consensus credit risk data and analytics used by financial institutions around the world.

The opportunity

Credit Benchmark is seeking a Banking Relationship Manager to work closely with our Head of Banking Americas and broader commercial team to help manage and deepen our relationships with contributing banks across the U.S. and Canada.

The role combines relationship management, strategic and commercial thinking, credit risk knowledge and disciplined execution. You will develop a deep understanding of each institution – how it is organized, how its credit and risk functions operate, who the key stakeholders are, what matters to them and where Credit Benchmark can add further value.

You will take ownership of much of the day-to-day coordination, preparation and follow-through across these relationships, enabling senior commercial colleagues to focus on high-value strategic engagement.

Our contributing banks also represent an important commercial opportunity. You will help identify new users, use cases and cross-sell opportunities within these institutions and work with the broader commercial team to pursue them.

Based in our New York City office, you will be part of a close-knit local team while working regularly with colleagues across Credit Benchmark globally. This is a highly visible role in a lean, entrepreneurial environment, and we are looking for someone who is comfortable operating with significant autonomy.

With that autonomy comes the opportunity to make an immediate and visible impact. Your ideas will be heard, your contribution will be visible, and from day one you will have the opportunity to improve how we manage and develop some of Credit Benchmark’s most important strategic relationships.

What you’ll do

Manage and Develop Contributor Relationships

  • Work closely with the Head of Banking Americas to help manage our contributing-bank relationships
  • Build relationships with relevant stakeholders across contributing institutions
  • Develop a strong understanding of each bank’s organizational structure, priorities, credit risk workflows and relationship with Credit Benchmark
  • Participate actively in contributor meetings and increasingly lead appropriate interactions independently
  • Lead or support product demonstrations, training sessions and other contributor engagements
  • Prioritise and engage in face-to-face meetings with key stakeholders, with some travel within the region to be expected

Own the Execution

  • Coordinate contributor meetings and ongoing engagement, including agendas, presentations and briefing materials
  • Ensure Credit Benchmark participants are well prepared for important interactions
  • Attend meetings, capture decisions and actions, and own the follow-through
  • Track initiatives, requests and commitments across the contributor portfolio and proactively drive them forward
  • Maintain high-quality relationship records in Salesforce, including contacts, interactions, opportunities and key institutional knowledge
  • Keep the workflow tight – ensure important actions and opportunities do not fall through the cracks

Think Strategically & Commercially

  • Understand how large banks are structured, how they operate and how decisions get made
  • Map relevant stakeholders across credit risk, counterparty risk, lending, markets, treasury, data, technology and other functions
  • Look beyond individual contacts to understand and develop the broader institutional relationship
  • Identify organizational, leadership or strategic changes that could affect the relationship or create new opportunities
  • Identify new users, use cases and potential cross-sell opportunities for Credit Benchmark’s products and capabilities
  • Work with the Head of Banking Americas and broader commercial team to ensure opportunities receive appropriate follow-through

Connect Our Banks with Credit Benchmark

  • Coordinate with Commercial, Product, Research, Data and Operations to address contributor questions and requests
  • Proactively gather, organize and communicate contributor feedback and market intelligence to relevant internal teams
  • Represent Credit Benchmark at relevant industry events and conferences

Credit Risk Knowledge Is Essential

This is not a traditional relationship management or administrative role. Our contributing-bank relationships involve sophisticated credit risk professionals. You must understand credit risk well enough to follow substantive conversations, ask intelligent questions and communicate credibly with experienced practitioners.

You should be comfortable with concepts including:

  • Internal credit risk ratings and rating methodologies
  • Probability of default (PD)
  • Credit scorecards and models
  • Model governance
  • Counterparty and wholesale credit risk
  • Credit portfolio management
  • Rating migrations and credit trends
  • Regulatory and economic capital

You do not need to be a quantitative model developer. But you do need to understand these concepts, why they matter and how banks use them to assess and manage credit risk. Above all, you should be innately curious about how banks think about and manage risk.

What we’re looking for

  • 7+ years of relevant professional experience – ideally combining exposure to banking or credit risk with client engagement, relationship management or commercial responsibilities
  • Strong academic credentials – ideally including a degree from a highly regarded university in finance, economics, business, mathematics or another relevant discipline
  • Strong working knowledge of credit risk and the language used by credit risk professionals
  • A strong understanding of how large banks are structured and operate – including how risk, front-office, data and technology functions interact
  • Strategic thinking and commercial curiosity – the ability to connect information, see the broader relationship and identify opportunities
  • A genuine self-starter with a bias toward action – you proactively identify problems, opportunities and next steps and take ownership of driving them forward
  • Confidence and judgment to operate autonomously and make decisions – while knowing when to seek input or involve others
  • Experience in client engagement, relationship management or another externally facing role
  • Exceptional organization, attention to detail and follow-through
  • Confidence interacting with senior professionals at large financial institutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Salesforce or a similar CRM is helpful

Who You Are

You combine strategic thinking with exceptional execution.

You are curious about how large financial institutions really work – how they are organized, how decisions get made and how they manage risk. You understand credit risk and are comfortable discussing ratings, PDs, scorecards and models with experienced practitioners.

You are a self-starter in the truest sense. You don’t wait for someone to give you a list of tasks or tell you what to do next. You see what needs to be done, develop a point of view and make things happen. You are comfortable making decisions and taking ownership, while having the judgment to know when collaboration or escalation is needed.

You are equally comfortable at the strategic and detailed level. You can think about how Credit Benchmark should deepen its relationship with a major bank and then personally ensure that the next meeting is well prepared, Salesforce is current and every follow-up action gets completed.

And you have commercial curiosity. When you learn something about a bank, you naturally ask: Who else should we know? Where else could Credit Benchmark add value?

Most importantly, you want your work to matter. You will thrive in a small, collaborative New York office where good ideas can quickly become action and where an ambitious, capable person can make a meaningful difference from the moment they join.

  • New stakeholders, use cases and cross-sell opportunities are consistently identified and brought to the commercial team
